FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (UPDATES)

HIGHLIGHTS (4 MATCHES)

Japan VS Costa Rica

Japan and Costa Rica locked horns for their group E fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Ahmed Bin Ali stadium, AL Rayyan on Sunday. In the first half none of the teams were able to keep it on target but the second half started with a better attacking Japanese team but at the 81st minute of the match the Costa Rican right-back Keysher Fuller Spence scored a goal and put his team in the driver’s seat. Japan is at the number 2 spot in group E while Costa Rica is at three both with 3 points each but Japan lead in Goal difference. Both these teams have the opportunity in their last group stage matches to qualify and get a shot at the knockout stages.

Belgium VS Morocco

Belgium and Morocco met for their second group F fixture at the AL Thumama Stadium, Qatar on Sunday. Belgium had a better possession of the ball but the Moroccan’s were more threatening in front of a goal. The first half ended with a disallowed goal of Hakim Ziyech as the VAR proved the Moroccan was offside. But in the 73rd minute substitute  Abdelhamid Sabiri scored a similar goal to give Morocco the lead and at the 92nd minute (extra time) another substitute Zakharia Aboukhlal scored the second goal was enough to shock the No. 2 ranked team in the world. With their first World Cup victory after 14 years, Morocco now moves to the second spot in the group ahead of Belgium and now really can fancy the chances of making it to the other side in the knockout stage for the first time after 1986 when they met Germany in the round of 16 and lost.

Croatia VS Canada

Canada was searching for their first ever goal in a World Cup when they met with Croatia at the Khalifa International stadium at Doha, Qatar in a group F match and did so by the goal of Alphonso Davies in just the second minute of the match to shock Croatia but the veteran team was never going to go down and Andrej Kramaric scored to rise his team up in the 36th and 70th minute of the match and 1 goal each from Marko Livaja and Lovro Majer  showed their dominance over the game. Canada are factually out of the Tournament while Croatia are at the top.

Spain VS Germany

Spain took on Germany in a much awaited world cup clash of group E at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor on Sunday. It was a night of the substitutes as Spain took the lead with a goal from Substitute Alvaro Morata in the 62nd minute as he came up early in the second half but Germany managed to find the equaliser in the 83rd minute by substitute Niclas Fullkrug and managed to take home a draw to keep their hopes of qualifying for the round of 16 alive.

UPCOMING MATCH PREVIEW (4 MATCHES)

Serbia VS Cameroon

The World Cup group stage is slowly moving towards its end game. Many teams are finding themselves on very thin ice, including Cameroon and Serbia. Both teams lost their opening game by a very narrow margin and will now play a virtual knockout match. In a very close encounter, Switzerland edged out Cameroon while Serbia lost to Brazil in their opening clashes. Both teams might consider them very unfortunate in the first game but this time, there’s no room for any mistakes. Serbia came into the tournament with huge wins at their back but needs to step up their game. In addition, Cameroon will hope to improve on their performance from the last match and give that extra effort in attack to win.

South Korea VS Ghana

Before the tournament, Uruguay and Portugal were the most talked-about teams. However, South Korea and Ghana showed that they are not helpless bystanders in the race for knockout football.Uruguay and Paulo Bento’s Taeguk Warriors played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday afternoon. The South Americans were favoured, but the Taeguk Warriors only let them get one shot on goal. Ghana almost got a point against Portugal later that day, but they took the wrong step, Inaki Williams lost his balance in the last seconds of a 3-2 loss when the goal was right in front of him.

Brazil VS Switzerland

The 2022 FIFA World Cup features another round of matches this week as Switzerland locks horns with Tite’s formidable Brazil side in an important Group G clash at Stadium 974 on Monday. A brace from Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison – the second of which has already been earmarked for the tournament’s highlights reel – helped the Selecao eventually break down Serbia’s stubborn resolve. Brazil’s first opponents, Serbia, were highly fancied to be one of the dark horses at this tournament, but a dominant performance from the Selecao made them look very ordinary. Switzerland also won the first game of their World Cup campaign against Cameroon but will be up against a more formidable opponent and they have to prepare better to face Brazil to get a good result.

Portugal VS Uruguay

Portugal enters this game after a lacklustre performance against Ghana, which resulted in a 3-2 victory. The game, though, could have resulted in a draw if Ghana had not squandered a golden opportunity. Portugal now must look ahead as they face one of South America’s giants, Uruguay, in their second FIFA World Cup 2022 game. Suarez and company should be disappointed with the effort they put on against South Korea, a dreary performance in which they failed to register a single shot on goal despite possessing such talented forwards. They will have to step up their intensity as they face a superior Portugal team.

The group stages are towards the end and the tournaments gets more exiting with that. Stay tuned for more updates. Thanks for reading.
